What is Town Twinning?

Twinning is a tradition that began after Second World War. International communities bond through new friendships, sports, the arts, business links and perhaps even through the co-operation of twinned towns to solve common problems. Mutual benefits are to be gained by both communities. A successful twinning link should involve every level of the community. Younger generations especially will benefit from enhanced understanding of a different culture, whilst also learning or improving their skills in a foreign language.

Oranmore Twinning is a Registered member of the Galway County Public Participation Network (PPN 2015)

If you wish to become involved please forward your details including phone number, address and email to oranmoretwinning@gmail.com

Chandeleur in Galway Accueil !!!!!!!!

February 2nd is the 'Chandeleur', also called the Chandeleur festival !!!!!

Every year the tradition is to cook lots of delicious crepes to enjoy with family and friends.

So where does this lovely tradition come from?

The Chandeleur, formerly known as 'Chandelle' is celebrated on February 2nd, 40 days after Christmas. Its name comes from the word 'candle'.

Originally, in Roman times this festival was held in honour of the God Pan. All night believers would roam the streets of Rome, waving torches.

To celebrate 'Chandeleur' Galway Accueil is organising a crepes party on

Sunday 11th February in the Ballindereen community centre from 3pm to 5pm.

Come and share this tradition with your friends. The more the merrier!

Registration is obligatory so that we can organise enough crepes for everyone,
